INSURANCE

Insurance

Damage insurance is mandatory on every rental — no exceptions — and is purchased when you reserve your boat, before you arrive at the marina. It's a nonrefundable cost of 9% of your boat rental total, included in your rental charges, and it limits your liability for damage to the boat: each policy carries $3,000 of damage coverage. Damage beyond $3,000 remains the renter's responsibility. We'll walk you through the coverage and pricing as part of the reservation, so everything is handled before your pickup day.

Full terms are in our rental agreement.

CANCELLATION

Cancellation

Reservations cancelled at least 7 days before your rental date are refunded in full. No-shows — and any cancellation made fewer than 7 days before your original rental time — are charged the full amount of the rental.

We do not give refunds for weather, water conditions, late start times, or rentals returned early, and we don't extend rental time for those reasons (see the Weather section below). To cancel, email bookings@lakepowellrentalco.com with your booking confirmation number and we'll send written confirmation of the cancellation and any refund.

SECURITY HOLD

Security hold

A $3,000 hold is placed on the credit card on file while your boat is out on the water. This is a temporary authorization, not a charge — no funds leave your account. This hold matches your $3,000 of mandatory damage coverage. The hold is released as soon as the boat is returned and confirmed undamaged. We do a brief walkaround with you at drop-off and note any concerns before you leave the dock.

If a return inspection can't be completed at drop-off (for example, an after-hours return), we'll complete it the following morning and the hold stays in place until then — but you'll never be charged without prior notice and documentation.

DAMAGE & LOSS

Damage & loss

Your mandatory damage insurance covers up to $3,000 of damage to the boat. We assess and charge for damage at the time of the incident, and you submit a claim to the insurer for reimbursement — so the $3,000 hold may be applied toward damage at return. Any damage beyond the $3,000 of coverage is the renter's responsibility.

Common scenarios include propeller strikes on submerged rock, hull abrasion, and torn upholstery. Damage resulting from reckless or prohibited operation — groundings, alcohol-related incidents, or operating outside permitted areas or the on-water rules — may not be covered and can be charged at full repair cost. We photograph every boat before and after each rental. A boat returned late incurs a fee of 25% of the rental rate for each half hour past your return window, and equipment not returned is billed at full replacement value.

CLEANING

Cleaning

Every rental includes a flat $195 cleaning fee. Lake Powell's red sand gets everywhere, and the fee covers the deep clean and detail we do between every rental — so your boat is spotless the day you pick it up. Normal sand-and-water wear is completely expected; just pack out your trash and don't grind food into the seats. Excessive mess beyond normal use may incur an additional charge.

WEATHER

Weather

We do not issue refunds or extend rental time for weather, wind, water conditions, or other natural conditions — reading the day and planning around it is part of boating on a big desert lake. Any damage to the boat caused by weather remains the renter's responsibility.

If conditions become genuinely unsafe, our team may pause or end activity for everyone's safety. See the weather and emergency guidance on our Safety page. We'll never pressure you to take a boat out in conditions you're not comfortable with.
